  15. GMC-BBS is a mailbox-program written for the Commodore AMIGA by Gerhard and
  16. Christine Moerth. This manual will guide you through the installation and
  17. helps you handling the software.

  19. Generally a Bulletin Board System (BBS) is a program which clearly arranges
  20. a lot of notes. Users also can read and write private mails or up- and
  21. download programs. Every operation is protected by a security level.
  22.  
  23. GMC-BBS Version 2.10 is shareware. This means that you can make as many
  24. copies as you want and pass them to as many persons (also on electronic
  25. way) as possible. The share version is limited as follows: the box is
  26. ready only one week from date of first installation, the number of users,
  27. up- downloads, messages and private mails is limited to 15.

  29. In the following you find a listing of many details of the program - use-
  30. ful if you want to compare it with other programs.

  34. Bulletins, messages and files can be arranged in maximal 100 directories
  35. with unlimited subdirectories. Each directory has it's own security level.
  36. Directories and subdirectories can contain any number of bulletins,
  37. messages and files. The limit is only the available disk space.

  41. GMC-BBS uses external and internal transfer protocols. At the moment
  42. "X-modem-checksum"  and  "x-modem-CRC" are integrated. The program
  43. switches automatically to the protocol of the caller. You can include
  44. external protocols such as X-modem, Y-modem, Z-modem, Bi-Modem etc. which
  45. correspond with XPR standard with the configuration file.

  49. The security level can be individually set for every user.

  53. All serial I/O-routines are optimized by hand for best performance.

  57. The SysOp can change time limit, security level, printer output, screen
  58. output, serial input and output online at any time.

  76. Special characters are accepted. From OS 2.0 on you can use all graphic
  77. possibilities of the ANSI emulation with an IBM font.

  81. GMC-BBS was written for highest speed, reliability and flexibility.
  82. Efficient programming technique leads to 100% multitasking use under
  83. OS 1.2, 1.3, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1. The program was written in C and tested on
  84. different machines.

  88. NTSC, PAL and drivers for the serial.device or for internal modems are
  89. configured in the TOOL-TYPES.

  93. The serial.device can be released to use other terminal programs without
  94. restarting GMC-BBS. You can switch the mailbox to "not ready" to backup
  95. your hard disk. During this time there will be no access on the hard disk
  96. or floppy disk.

  100. Internal, external and highspeed modems are supported perfectly (e.g.
  101. higher DTE speed between computer and modem which allows data
  102. compression).

  106. Detecting fax call and transmission to external fax programs is possible.
  107. At the moment ready scripts for Multifax (TKR) and TrapFax (Village
  108. Tronic) are included. If your modem has no fax detection or your fax
  109. software cannot handle an existing line you can also connect an external
  110. fax switch.

  118. Multitasking will not be effected. You can do whatever you want, GMC-BBS
  119. is programmed correctly so it can run in the background.

  129. time is checked and even the program will be stopped because suggestive
  130. working is not possible without correct time.

  135. LZH, ZOO, ARC, ...). After finishing the user gets a message.
